Solar Powered Water Pumping system in Punakha, Bhutan

Collaboration between ICIMOD through its Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) initiative, SEE, and local residents in the installation of SPWP system in Punakha Dzong. This system and concept is the first of its kind to be installed in Bhutan.

The system consists of a 1HP surface pump, 1kW solar panel, and 3kW solar pump controller. The solar power water pump runs through the energy generated from the solar system and has the capability to lift the water up to 12000 liters per hour on a sunny day.
